Yesterday morning my baby boy took his very first unassisted steps. Maya was an early walker, taking her first couple of steps at 9 months and full on walking by 10 months. Kiran has shown very little interest in walking, which is fine with me – I’m in no hurry for my littlest baby to grow up! He’s way more cautious than his sister who has no fear (or sense!) – this boy looks before he leaps. Kiran has mastered skills that Maya never bothered learning, like climbing down stairs backwards and we’ve had a lot less head bangs and falls than we did with her. He’s been walking round with us holding his hand for a couple of weeks and we’ve been able to trick him into standing on his own a couple of times (if he thinks he’s still holding on to something!). I suspected he could actually walk but was choosing not to. And then yesterday I plonked him down on the floor and he took a couple of steps towards me before losing his balance. I managed to get the second attempt on video before he went on strike – now if I stand him up he just laughs and sits back down again. It takes a lot of courage being a baby – I’d be scared to fall on my face too! I suspect it will be another couple of months before he’s walking properly but it is nice to know he’s mastered another milestone before his first birthday.

yay!!! congratulations to your boy! he looks so proud of himself! he also sounds like a kindred spirit for my girl, who walked once before her first birthday, then proceeded to NEVER do it again (well, at least until about 4 months later.) She’s a cautious little one, and doesn’t like doing things unless she’s sure she can.
yep that sounds like Kiran! I’ve tried to encourage him to do it again many times – he’s confident standing unsupported for a couple of minutes now but those little feet are firmly planted on the ground!
