I meant to post this last night but ran out of time and didn’t want to be the antisocial person inside on the computer when everyone else was outside (even if New Years here is generally rubbish and nobody gets the concept of letting the fireworks off at midnight instead of all night). Anyway, why not start the new year as I mean to go on, hehe
January
My dad came to visit and the year got off to a great start with the arrival of one of my favourite humans into the world.
February
We were generally occupied with looking after a newborn, but what better way to spend a month?
March
Maya made her first marks on the wall as an internationally renowned artist, my mum came to visit and it was Nyepi (I missed the ogoh ogoh parade AGAIN due to said newborn – next year!!)
April
Kids keep getting cuter and we started demolishing our old falling down kitchen
May
Kiran’s 3 month ceremony
June
We got a new motorbike, grandad came to visit again and we had a mini-break in Candidasa
July
I practised my single parenting skills while the rest of the family were busy in the village, Maya discovered the joys of fingerpainting and we had the 2012 village cremation ceremony. Kiran also started eating solid foods.
August
Maya’s first day at school! We had the blessing ceremony for our new kitchen and office, it was Galungan and my and Made’s 32nd birthday – we went to the zoo. Kiran had his first otonan and had all his hair shaved off. A busy month!
September
Made bought some ducks and we rebuilt the protective shrine outside the house compound.
October
Maya turned two! Lucy came to visit and Kiran had his first swim
November
Kiran had his first trip to the beach (and first taste of sand!), grandma came to visit again and we had a few days down in Seminyak
December
Grandad and Sue and uncle Ian came to visit and it was Christmas!
So there you have it! Maybe not as exciting as some other years in terms of travel and adventures but an amazing year with the birth of my beautiful Kiran, some wonderful family times together and LOTS of visitors! Here’s hoping 2013 will be just as fun
I’m very nearly into the first page on top baby blogs! It would be amazing if I could make it there before the votes reset on the 20th. Just click the banner below to vote and then the owl that says “click here to vote”

Happy New Year to all of you
I have to ask about the purple chick Maya’s holding in May? Did they dye it?

I hadn’t really noticed how much Maya’s grown up between Jan and Dec! Definitely not a baby now
It’s fab that you get to see so much of your parents despite them living so far away.
Yeah they sell dyed chicks as pets here – horribly cruel of course and I would never have bought one but Made bought her it and it looked cute :p
your kids are adorable!
thanks hailey
Nice photos! Glad you had an amazing year with your family and loved ones. Love your kid. She is so precious!
