Maya – 7 months old
It’s been another busy month for Maya! She’s been crawling properly for the last week or two although she still prefers to drop onto her tummy if she wants to get somewhere quickly. She’s climbing on everything and pulling up to standing whenever she can. We don;t really have much baby height furniture so she’ll usually pull up on me if I’m sitting on the floor! I reckon she’ll be cruising after a couple of weeks practise on the sofas at my mum and dad’s houses. She learned to sit without resting on her hands for balance right at the beginning of the month and figured out how to go from crawling to sitting within a few days. Now when she wakes up from her nap and cries out, I go in to find her sitting in the middle of the bed which is really cute! She also likes kneeling and can do it without holding anything for balance for a few seconds.
Frustraingly she said mama twice at the beginning of the month and has only said it once since! Baba is by far her favourite thing to say still but I’m sure I’ve heard a few das and pas. She likes to make gargling noises and sort of wind noises at the back of her throat. The last few days she also learned to click her tongue which is funny as it sounds like she’s tutting all the time!
On top of all this, her first 2 teeth are coming through! I started feeling them under the gum a couple of days ago and now you can just about see them coming through. she’d been a bit grumpy, not napping well and had her first case of nappy rash so i’m guessing this is why!
favourite games are still peek a boo and playing on daddy’s motorbike, joined by standing at the window and shouting at us, banging her stacking cups and pulling wet wipes out of the container.
Eating is still going well with current favourites being tomato and courgette. I made homemade fish fingers the other day, which she wolfed down. The one thing we’ve not really tried yet is meat – partly because we don’t cook with it that often and partly because i’m a bit worried about her choking on meat for some reason. She’s been opening and closing her fist a lot this month (usually with her hand in the air like she’s waving) and she’s just about figured she can eat the rest of the food she’s holding if she opens her hand. She’s picking up smaller pieces of food but still not quite developed a pincer grip though i think it won’;t be long because she’s obsessed with small objects, especially zips.
